Perolla

Agricola San Felice has been long involved in the Maremma area, in particular in livestock operations and in breeding the prestigious Chianina cattle. But beginning in the 1990s, tenuta Perolla also experienced a remarkable programme of developing its viticultural resources.

The estate extends over some 1,000 hectares, with 50 in vineyards, which rise from the plains into the hills around Massa Marittima. These hills have traditionally been planted to sangiovese and vermentino, but San Felice was able to distinguish particular terroirs that hosted with great success other noble varieties, such as cabernet, merlot, and syrah.

The range of cultivatable soils is considerable, due to variations in the proportion of clay to silt and sand; this allows wide flexibility in selection of appropriate grape varieties. The mild weather, conditioned by the nearby Mediterranean, ensures a gradual and complete ripening process.

We are convinced that the Perolla tenuta shows remarkable promise for winegrowing, a promise that is increased even more by the rich body of technical and research expertise developed by Agricola San Felice.
